St Peter’s has developed links with a Presbyterian church in Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson is a city of around 202,000 people in the centre of the state of Mississippi. It has a lot of similarities with Dundee, in that it is a friendly city with a large University training hospital and a mixture of people of different social status.

Trinity church is just over 50 years old. The church is part of the Presbyterian Church of America, being Reformed and Conservative Presbyterian in its theology. The team of staff consists of the Senior Pastor Rev Mike Ross, the Assistant Pastor for Pastoral Care (Earl Adams), the Youth and Family Minister (Scott Pierce), the Director of Outreach and Missions (Steve Lanier) and the Church Administrator (Dina Plunket).

Trinity seeks to reach out to people who are not yet Christians, to build up and strengthen the faith of those who are believers and to seek to restore the Biblical foundations of life in their city and country.

Trinity has sent several teams of people from their church to help at times of outreach and mission at St Peter’s over the last few years. This has played a significant part in strengthening the links between the churches and also in stretching and strengthening the individual faiths of those who have been involved. They have also generously provided the finances for St Peter’s to have a Full-time Youth Minister.

In 2000, the St Peter’s minister David Robertson went on sabbatical for 6 months with his family to stay in Jackson, Mississippi. During this time, friendships were made and renewed and the congregation of believers at Trinity made them most welcome, making them part of the church family.
Future plans include another team of people from Trinity coming to help at a children’s summer outreach in 2001 and also a return visit is planned with a team from St Peter’s going to assist with outreach work in Jackson.
