Dundee Internationals

St. Peter’s church  provides a warm welcome for international students.

Friends International Dundee was set up by people from a number of Dundee churches who are interested in befriending the international community in Dundee. Saint Peter's had a leading role in setting up this work and has been involved ever since. Members of Saint Peter's are part of the team that runs the International Café which meets in Saint Peter's each week and other people welcome international students into their homes.

Every year hundreds of international students come to Dundee to study. While they are here, we have an opportunity to become their friends. Many of them come from countries with which we have very little contact. It is a privilege to meet people from these places.

If you would like to find out more about Friends International Dundee, visit our Website at:

The International Café
During most of the year, with a break during the summer holiday, Friends International runs the International Café at Saint Peter's. Each Saturday evening, from 8:00 to 10:00, St. Peter’s church hall is transformed into a café. A number of international students came each week, together with people from local churches. In addition to the refreshments, we play table tennis or sit and speak together. There are frequently special events at the Café and our programme of events is on the Friends International Dundee website.

The Welcome Scheme
We have a small team of hosts from Dundee churches who invite international students to visit them in their homes. The aim is to provide a welcome and then go on to get to know the students during their time in Dundee. Perhaps the student might come for a meal, join a family trip, meet in town, or come to the International Café… There are countless ways to spend time together and build a friendship.

The Small Group
The small group meets every second Tuesday evening in a local home. They have a meal together then there is time for discussion together on any topic. There is an opportunity to look at a Bible passage together and discuss the issues it raises.

Finding out more
If you are an international student, perhaps you would like to come to the Café on Saturday evening or you could join our email list for news of events in Dundee for international students. Perhaps you would like to join the Welcome Scheme or the Small Group. Perhaps you would like more information about living in Dundee. Details are on the Friends International Dundee website www.friendsinternational-dundee.org.uk or you can just arrive at the Café and join in.

If you are part of Saint Peter's Church, there are  practical ways in which you can help. Perhaps you would like to receive news from Malcolm and Ruth Farquhar who work for Friends International in Dundee. Saint Peter's provides a team to run the Café about once every six weeks and also some folk who help at the Café more frequently. You could be linked with young undergraduates abroad for the first time, mature students working on a research project or perhaps a family. If you would like to receive news, help at the Café or find out more about giving hospitality through the Welcome Scheme, please speak to Gareth or Sally at church.
