St. Peters has a "sister church" relationship with a congregation in HAREN in the Netherlands. We keep in touch with each other by letter and email, sharing the activities and blessings God gives to each church. We also have exchanged visits from each congregation, which has helped to strengthen the link. In 2002, exchange visits took place with a group of Dutch young people visiting St Peter's in January. Over the weekend, they enjoyed (endured?!) such culinary delights as fish suppers, haggis and irn-bru. They also visited the sites of Dundee and St Andrew's and had a tour of the Free Church College in Edinburgh. Later on in the year, a smaller group of St Peter's young people returned the visit. They were treated to warm hospitality, good food (Holland produces more than just Edam cheese!) and a tour of the nearby historic city of Gronigen. These visits have been very enjoyable and have strengthened links between the two churches. The Haren congregation (and the denomination of which is it part) also contributes towards the St Peters Church Administrators wage. The Haren
congregation (Gereformeerde Kerk) is a comparatively new church (it was
opened in 1974). Theologically, it is a Reformed church. Their desire
is to minister to and be a part of the community where they are based
and everyone is most welcome to come to the services. The church has two
services each Lords Day and many other opportunities to worship
and enjoy fellowship for young and old. They have about 650 members from
the city of Haren and the surrounding area. Contact Pastor Henk Drost at 050-5370131 or the church office 050-5370128. |
