The McCheyne Building Fund
St Peter’s Free Church in Dundee is one of Scotland’s best known churches. It is the church of Robert Murray McCheyne, visited by hundreds of Christians from all over the world each year.
In disrepair, it was on the point of being turned into housing when the Free Church bought it. For the past 17 years there has been continual growth, with people coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. The congregation is a youthful one, with the vast majority being under 40 years old.
Starting late in 2008, the church embarked on an ambitious £844,756 building project that saw the church transformed to continue bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of Dundee and beyond in the 21st century. Our vision is that the building be used on a daily basis to proclaim the Word of God and bring more people to Christ.
Unusually perhaps, the building work was financed with a loan from the Free Church of Scotland. The congregation of St Peter’s have pledged to raise a third of the cost. We are looking for support from the wider church throughout Scotland and the world to join us and raise the rest.
